Indoor Water Park within a Holiday Park Resort

Splashaway Bay is an action-packed indoor water park located at Haven’s Craig Tara Holiday Park in Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Designed for families, children, and thrill-seekers alike, it is one of the standout features of this popular seaside holiday destination. As part of the wider Craig Tara resort, Splashaway Bay is exclusive to guests staying on-site and is not open to the general public for day visits. It forms part of what many call a “caravan park with swimming pool” although the scale and features of Splashaway Bay are closer to a fully-fledged indoor leisure water park.

The water complex includes a multi-level pool area with flumes, cascading waterfalls, water jets, and a lazy river. There is also a large pool suitable for lane swimming and water-based games, as well as a shallow interactive area for younger children. One of its main draws is the thrill slide for children over 1.2 metres, offering a more adventurous ride within a safe environment. For those looking for “good swimming pools near me” or an “indoor swimming pool with slide near me,” Splashaway Bay ticks every box for a fun-filled family day.

Guests often mention how well the space is designed to cater for all ages, with clear zoning between energetic flume areas and quieter relaxation spaces. Parents travelling with babies and toddlers will find facilities that make family holidays more manageable, and there are trained lifeguards on duty at all times.

As part of the Haven network, Splashaway Bay is often listed among the “best Haven swimming pool” experiences in the UK, earning it a strong reputation among regular visitors to Haven holiday parks. It is also frequently mentioned in discussions about “holiday parks in UK with swimming pools” and “caravan parks with swimming pools near me.”

Seasonal Availability

Splashaway Bay is open year-round, making it an attractive option for off-peak getaways and winter holidays. Whether you are looking for summer water fun or rainy-day activities in the colder months, the facility is fully enclosed and heated to ensure comfort regardless of season. Guests staying in colder months particularly appreciate the ability to enjoy an indoor swimming pool with slides, hot showers, and family facilities all under one roof.

Attractions & Features at Splashaway Bay

Splashaway Bay at Craig Tara is a standout example of a large water park designed with a wide range of guests in mind. From high-energy flumes to calming water zones, it offers an array of activities suited to every age group. As part of a holiday park swimming pool experience, it blends family-friendly fun with accessible design and safety-first features.

Main Attractions

The heart of Splashaway Bay is its multi-level indoor pool complex, a bright, colourful space filled with twisting flumes, cascading water jets, spray zones, and fountains. There are interactive splash zones perfect for younger children, where tipping buckets and gentle sprays create excitement without overwhelming little ones.

The main pool is large enough to accommodate both relaxed swimmers and those joining in on scheduled aqua activities. Visitors seeking “swimming pools near me” that offer something more than just a standard dip will be delighted with the variety of features here. The space is well supervised by trained lifeguards and managed in zones, which helps maintain an organised, safe atmosphere even during busy periods.

Special Rides

For older children and teenagers, the star of Splashaway Bay is the thrill flume – a long, enclosed slide that twists and turns before splashing into a dedicated catch pool. Access is restricted to guests over 1.2 m tall, which is closely monitored by staff for safety.

There are also multi-lane racer slides, ideal for family competitions, and spiral flumes that offer both fast and moderate rides depending on your comfort level. These add to the feeling that this is not just a pool, but a fully-fledged swimming pool water park experience.

Kids & Family Areas

Younger children and families are well catered for. In addition to the main splash zone, there is a separate toddler pool with shallow water, gentle sprays, and soft flooring. Water features such as mini slides, playful tipping buckets, and bubble jets create a safe space for little ones to explore water play.

The design of these areas reflects Haven’s focus on creating a true family water park environment — one where children feel confident, and parents feel at ease. With so many families asking for a “holiday park with swimming pool” that offers age-specific areas, Splashaway Bay stands out as a top contender.

Relaxation Areas

For adults or those who simply wish to unwind, Splashaway Bay offers more than just splashing and slides. While there is no traditional spa or sauna area, there are quiet seating zones and poolside lounging spots, allowing guests to sit back and enjoy the warm environment.

Parents supervising children from the side can take advantage of the raised viewing area and benches placed throughout the pool zone. These thoughtful details help distinguish Splashaway Bay from standard leisure pools or basic park with pool offerings.

Unique Features

One of the most loved features of Splashaway Bay is its indoor lazy river – a gentle-flowing circular current where guests can float and relax. Often requested by guests searching for a swimming pool with lazy river, this area gives a calm, meditative experience that contrasts nicely with the energetic flumes.

Another standout is the theming. While not an over-the-top water theme park, Splashaway Bay incorporates subtle seaside motifs, bold colours, and dynamic water installations that create an immersive environment. Guests looking for a “water fun park” or “water leisure park” will find the atmosphere engaging and vibrant.

Baby & Infant Facilities

Families visiting Splashaway Bay at Craig Tara will find that the water park is well prepared to accommodate babies and infants, making it a reliable choice for those searching for a baby-friendly holiday park swimming pool in Scotland. Whether you are travelling with a newborn, toddler, or both, Haven has ensured that key amenities are in place to reduce stress and increase enjoyment for the whole family.

Baby Changing Facilities

Changing areas are located close to the main pool entrances and are clearly signposted. The baby changing rooms are clean, warm, and include both wall-mounted changing tables and freestanding baby change stations. These are regularly maintained and cleaned by staff, which is often noted in guest reviews as a key highlight.

There are also dedicated family changing rooms, large enough for two adults and multiple children. This makes it much easier for families with prams or younger siblings to move around without difficulty. For those searching for “family activities near Glasgow” or a “swim pool near me” with convenient infant facilities, Splashaway Bay offers a strong, practical setup.

Bottle-Warming Stations

While there is no dedicated bottle-warming room inside the pool area itself, Haven provides this service within the wider complex at Craig Tara. Staff at nearby food and drink outlets or the baby station in the entertainment complex are usually happy to assist with heating bottles, especially during colder seasons.

Parents staying in on-site accommodation have access to kitchenettes or full kitchens, depending on their grade of caravan or lodge, which makes bottle preparation easier before and after pool time.

Baby Pools

A key attraction for families with infants is the dedicated toddler splash area within Splashaway Bay. This section has very shallow water, soft flooring, and a collection of age-appropriate water features such as mini slides, fountains, and spray jets. It is specifically designed for children under five and babies who are not yet confident in the water.

Temperature control in this zone is carefully maintained — the water is kept slightly warmer than in the main pool, providing comfort and safety for very young swimmers. This has proven especially popular among parents who prefer warm, enclosed baby pool spaces over larger, colder public pools.

Minimum Age Restrictions

There is no strict minimum age to enter Splashaway Bay, but all babies and toddlers must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times, with a 1:1 supervision ratio for under 4s recommended during busy periods. Children using the larger flumes or thrill rides must be at least 1.2 m tall.

Swim nappies are required for all non-potty-trained infants, and they are available to purchase on-site if needed. Parents are also encouraged to bring baby floatation aids, although Haven does not rent these out directly.

With its clean changing areas, baby-friendly pool zones, and flexible bottle-warming options, Splashaway Bay easily ranks among the best water parks for families with babies in Scotland. It meets the needs of parents looking for caravan parks with swimming pools that prioritise both safety and convenience for the youngest members of the family.

🎫

Haven swimming pool booking

Splashaway Bay at Craig Tara is not a standalone ticketed attraction like some UK water parks. Instead, access to the indoor water park is included as part of a guest’s stay at the Haven Craig Tara Holiday Park, making it a highly convenient option for families looking for a caravan park with swimming pool. Understanding the pricing structure is key for those planning a visit, particularly during peak school holidays or bank holiday weekends.

Entry Fees

Access to Splashaway Bay is included in the price of your Haven holiday package, provided you book a stay that includes entertainment passes. These passes grant access to all on-site facilities such as the swimming pools, splash zones, and other activities like the Airspace sports hall and adventure playgrounds.

Guests staying in Haven’s standard accommodation (Saver, Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Signature grades) will receive these passes as part of their booking if selected. For those choosing a “Stay” package only (without passes), entry to the water park would not be permitted unless upgraded on-site.

This inclusive approach makes Splashaway Bay a great option for those searching for a holiday park with swimming pool near me where there are no additional charges for daily entry.

Discounts & Offers

Haven regularly runs seasonal promotions and early booking discounts for their holidays, especially in off-peak periods. While there is no separate ticketing for Splashaway Bay, guests can often save money on their accommodation – and therefore pool access – by booking in advance or taking advantage of last-minute deals.

Families who travel during term time or midweek can find very reasonable package rates, which makes Craig Tara an appealing choice for those looking for cheap UK aqua parks with accommodation included.

There are also special discounts for NHS staff and Blue Light Card holders, although these vary year by year and are subject to availability.

Splashaway Bay Tickets Booking

All access to Splashaway Bay is managed through your Haven holiday booking. Reservations for accommodation at Craig Tara can be made:

  • Directly through the official Haven website
  • Over the phone at 0333 202 5250
  • Through authorised travel partners such as Hoseasons or Breakfree Holidays

Once booked, guests are encouraged to download the Haven app, which includes holiday details, facility opening times, and options to book activities in advance – including timed swim sessions during peak periods.

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Haven offers a standard cancellation policy which allows for free cancellation or amendments within 24 hours of booking. After that, the refund amount depends on how far in advance the cancellation is made.

Guests are encouraged to add Haven Holiday Protection during checkout, which provides additional flexibility in case of illness, emergencies, or last-minute changes. It is worth noting that unused access to Splashaway Bay (e.g., if you choose not to use the pool) is not eligible for any partial refund, as pool access is part of the full holiday package.

In summary, while there are no day passes or separate entry fees, Splashaway Bay remains one of the best-value indoor water parks in Scotland for families seeking an all-in-one holiday with inclusive water fun. For many, this answers the common query:
“Is Splashaway Bay free?”
Yes – but only if you are a registered Haven guest with the correct package.

Haven swimming pool opening times

Understanding the operating hours of Splashaway Bay is essential for planning your time at Craig Tara Holiday Park, especially during busy holiday periods when demand for pool sessions is high. While Splashaway Bay is open throughout most of the year, its opening times do vary seasonally and may be subject to change based on capacity, staffing, and weather conditions for associated outdoor activities.

Daily Schedule

Splashaway Bay typically opens from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, seven days a week. During peak summer holidays and bank holiday weekends, opening hours may be extended slightly, with some evening sessions available. Access to the pool is managed through session booking on the Haven app or at the on-site activity booking desk.

Most swim sessions last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, and it is strongly advised to book early in the day to secure your preferred time slot – particularly during school holidays or weekends when the park reaches full occupancy.

Seasonal Changes

Splashaway Bay is an indoor facility, which means it remains operational year-round, including autumn and winter months. This is a significant advantage for families searching for “indoor swimming pool with slide near me” or “swimming pools near me outdoor” alternatives when the weather is less favourable.

Although the pool is open all year, Haven operates Craig Tara as a seasonal resort, with the holiday park typically open from mid-March through early November. Therefore, while the water park itself is designed for year-round use, access is naturally limited to the dates when the park is open and accepting guests.

Outside the main holiday season, opening times may be reduced slightly, and fewer swim sessions may be available each day. Staff availability and guest occupancy usually determine how many sessions are scheduled.

Peak & Off-Peak Info

Peak Times

These include summer school holidays, half terms, Easter break, and long bank holiday weekends. During these times, swim sessions must be pre-booked via the Haven app due to high demand. Guests are usually limited to one swim session per day to ensure fair access for all visitors.

Off-Peak Times

In quieter months such as late March, early June, or mid-September, walk-in access may be available, and guests might be allowed to book multiple sessions per day, subject to availability. Lifeguard coverage remains constant throughout the season, ensuring guest safety regardless of visitor numbers.

Splashaway Bay’s structured timetable, seasonal operation, and session management make it a highly organised environment – ideal for families searching for “holiday parks near Glasgow with swimming pool” or “parks with swimming pools” that deliver a safe and well-coordinated experience.

For up-to-date swim times, check the Haven app once you have booked your stay or speak to the activity booking team on arrival.

Splashaway Bay Accessibility

Splashaway Bay at Craig Tara is part of a modern, inclusive holiday park designed to accommodate guests with a range of needs. From step-free access and adapted changing rooms to on-site parking and public transport links, the park has made meaningful efforts to ensure that families, older visitors, and those with mobility requirements can enjoy the facilities comfortably. For many, it answers the call for a park with pool that is genuinely accessible and welcoming to all.

Public Transport

Craig Tara Holiday Park is located just outside the seaside town of Ayr, in South Ayrshire, making it reasonably accessible by public transport:

  • Train: The nearest railway station is Ayr Station, around 4 miles from the park. Direct services are available from Glasgow Central, with journeys taking approximately 50–60 minutes.
  • Bus: From Ayr Station, the Stagecoach Bus 97 or 361 can take you directly to the entrance of Craig Tara Holiday Park. The journey takes roughly 15 minutes. There is a dedicated bus stop right outside the main reception.

This setup makes Splashaway Bay a feasible option for those searching for “water park Glasgow” or “attractions near Glasgow” that do not require a car.

Wheelchair & Accessibility

Splashaway Bay offers step-free access throughout the facility. Key features include:

  • Wide entrance doors and spacious corridors within the pool complex
  • Accessible changing rooms fitted with adjustable benches, support rails, and emergency pull cords
  • Poolside hoist to assist guests with reduced mobility into and out of the water
  • Trained staff available to provide support where needed

While not all flumes or slides are accessible for those with mobility impairments (due to stair access), the main leisure pool and lazy river are fully accessible, offering a relaxing experience for all.

Guests with additional needs are advised to contact Haven in advance to discuss requirements or arrange for any specific support.

Splashaway Bay Parking

There is ample on-site parking, with designated blue badge bays located close to both the main complex and accommodation areas. Parking is free for all registered guests.

The pool complex has drop-off zones near the entrance for easier access with prams, wheelchairs, or elderly guests.

Car Charging Stations

As of the most recent updates, Craig Tara has begun introducing electric vehicle (EV) charging points, although the number is currently limited. It is best to check with the park reception or on the Haven app before travelling to confirm availability and exact location.

Shuttle Service

While Craig Tara does not operate a private shuttle service from local train stations, local taxis and buses are readily available in Ayr. During busy periods, Haven staff at reception can assist with taxi bookings and offer advice for public transport routes.

Thanks to its practical access routes, adapted facilities, and supportive staff, Splashaway Bay is a strong contender for families or individuals looking for “accessible swimming pools”, “family-friendly water parks in Scotland”, or “inclusive holiday park swimming pool” options.

We arrived 10 minutes prior to our 10am slot. Waited outside and once hit 10, we were promptly served/checked in. We didn’t bring a buggy but there was a storage area for them. There is also loads of things, from kids costumes, floaties etc you can buy before going in. Family changing rooms, £1 lockers which are decent sized, loads of roomy cubicles with lockable doors, baby changing rooms, hair dryers, disabled toilets and male and female toilets. The place was BUSY but it was SPOTLESS. There was a lady in cleaning, she was busy but so polite! We had a 60 minute slot, the pools were a little chilly but our 15m toddler didn’t seem bothered. They have a tots pool which is lovely with some water features. There isn’t steps/ladders leading into the pools so would be good for those who struggle with steps/ladders. There was also loads of lifeguards on duty and they seemed attentive. (Which for a worrier like me is a great plus)

My kids enjoyed this, they were disappointed that they couldn’t get access to the lazy river although they were allowed in last year. Height restrictions seem to have changed, have to be over 1.4m. I found it really uncomfortable as it was really humid and could almost taste the chlorine in the air, after 30mins I found breathing more difficult.

Great fun. Kids absolutely loved it. Does get quite busy. It also closes earlier than you might expect. The last booking is 2.15pm each day. We felt that was quite early and would’ve loved even an early evening swim. If you’re not swimming, and merely spectating, it is roasting hot inside! Take a fan with you. The day I was there, the chlorine smelled really strong. In fact my eyes were nipping with it. We were visiting our Grandkids on site, and they assured us that swimming had become part of their ‘every day’ fun. You do need to book it first.

A good bright and interesting environment for a family activity or adventure pool. We visited for a week in mid October. Even at busy times pool staff tried hard to keep the dressing rooms clean and tidy.
Some very minor repairs, could be highlighted as being left undone. Not all locker keys had no rubber bracelets. Some mosaic decorations were missing a tiny tile leaving possible sharp edges. The wheelchair lift from the entrance level to spectators area was inoperable. None of great importance perhaps, but all giving a somewhat tired appearance.
I was very impressed by the apparent training and subsequent quality of the “lifeguards” on duty throughout the week. All seemed very attentive to their designated field of view, and changing position with their colleagues at regular intervals. There was a good interaction with bathers and some banter amongst the staff. A relaxed but very efficient and safe activity. It was good to see safety rules and other regulations being enforced discreetly but effectively.

By far the busiest and potentially dangerous activity within the Park, but with good training and careful selection of staff this is in my opinion the safest and best presented activity.

Safety & Cleanliness

Cleanliness is frequently praised by guests. Splashaway Bay is described as “spotless,” “well-staffed,” and “constantly maintained.” The lifeguard presence is highly visible, with trained staff on duty at all times across multiple pool zones.

The facility has clear signage, accessible rules, and visible safety checks, which is reassuring to parents and contributes to its image as a safe, family-oriented water fun park.

Some minor negative reviews have noted:

  • Queueing during peak times for flumes
  • The water temperature being slightly cooler in the main pool
  • Limits on daily swim sessions during summer holidays

However, these points are typically outweighed by positive experiences and seem tied more to expected peak-season pressures rather than systemic issues.

With strong overall guest satisfaction, Splashaway Bay ranks highly among UK indoor pools for families and is often featured in discussions about “UK water parks”, “aqua parks UK”, and “holiday parks with water slides UK.”

Ride-Specific Rules

Splashaway Bay at Craig Tara is home to a variety of slides and water play features, each with its own safety regulations and usage guidelines. These rules are in place to ensure the safety of all guests, particularly younger children and those using thrill-based attractions. Whether you are floating along the lazy river or climbing to the top of a flume, it is important to follow these ride-specific rules closely.

Flumes & Thrill Slides

The larger flumes are among the most popular attractions at Splashaway Bay, especially for older children and teens. These include twisting enclosed flumes and open splash slides. The following rules apply:

  • Minimum height requirement: 1.2 metres. This rule is strictly enforced, and staff will check height using clear measurement markers at each ride entrance.
  • Riding position: Most slides require riders to adopt a safe, feet-first position as indicated by staff or signage. Guests must follow the posted instructions and lifeguard signals at all times.
  • One rider at a time: For safety, all flumes operate on a single-user system, and riders must wait for clear staff instructions or posted signage before starting their slide.
  • Swimwear: All riders must wear appropriate swimwear — no metal, zips, buttons, or buckles that could scratch the slide or cause injury.
  • No stopping mid-slide: Riders must not attempt to slow themselves down, turn around, or stop on the slide. Any breach may result in removal from the ride queue.

Multi-Lane Slides

These shorter, wide slides are ideal for family races and group fun. They are designed for use in parallel lanes and are generally more relaxed in terms of speed and intensity.

  • Suitable for children aged 5+ under adult supervision.
  • Slide feet-first only – head-first sliding is not permitted.
  • Only one person per lane at a time.

Lazy River

The indoor lazy river is a calm, continuous flow that loops around a shallow pool area, providing a relaxing contrast to the flumes. It is a favourite among guests searching for a swimming pool with lazy river in the UK.

  • Inflatables are generally not permitted in the lazy river, though small floatation aids for children may be allowed at staff discretion.
  • Young children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • No diving, jumping, or splashing in the lazy river route.
  • Guests must follow the current — walking or swimming against the flow is not allowed.

Toddler & Splash Zones

These areas are designed specifically for under 5s and non-confident swimmers. Features include mini slides, tipping buckets, jets, and shallow paddling sections.

  • Children in this area must be supervised on a 1:1 basis by an adult, who should remain within arm’s reach at all times.
  • Running is not permitted, even in shallow areas.
  • Swim nappies are required for infants and toddlers.
  • Slide access in this area is restricted to younger children — older siblings are asked to use the larger pool or flumes.

Wave Features & Water Cannons

Some interactive areas include water sprays, cannons, or timed jets that activate periodically.

  • Children should be instructed not to aim cannons at others’ faces.
  • Do not block jets with hands or feet.
  • Users must stay alert to avoid accidental slips when features activate suddenly.

These answers are based on official information, customer reviews, and Haven’s policies, ensuring they reflect only verified and accurate content.

Is Splashaway Bay open to the public?

No. Splashaway Bay is exclusive to guests staying at Haven Craig Tara Holiday Park. Day visitors or members of the public who are not booked into the park cannot access the pool complex.

There is no strict minimum age, but babies must wear swim nappies and be accompanied by a supervising adult.

What are Splashaway Bay’s opening times?

Typical opening hours are 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, seven days a week. Swim sessions may need to be pre-booked via the Haven app, especially during peak seasons. Opening times may vary based on season, maintenance, or capacity.

Generally yes – the water is kept at a comfortable temperature, with toddler areas slightly warmer. Some guests visiting during colder months have noted that certain areas feel cooler, but this varies by pool zone and personal preference.

Are swim nappies required?

Yes. All babies and toddlers who are not potty trained must wear swim nappies, which are available to purchase on-site if needed.

Can I bring my own floatation aids?

Yes, but only appropriate floatation devices such as armbands or baby swim seats. Large inflatables or toys may not be allowed during busy periods, especially in the lazy river or flume zones.
